Announcement of Admissions by Lateral Entry for the Academic Year 2019-20
Indian Maritime University - Visakhapatnam Campus was previously known as NSDRC. The IMU Visakhapatnam Campus emerges from the
confluence of the centrally established Indian Maritime University at Chennai, and India's premier ship design and maritime research institution,
the National Ship Design and Research Centre. IMU Visakhapatnam Campus heralds the integration of visionary academic insight with the
accumulated professional expertise and knowledge base on Ship Design and Maritime Technology.
Presently Visakhapatnam Campus is located in the former NSDRC Office and residential complex on a 5 acre property located on the main road
connecting Naval Base and Scindia junction (Hindustan Shipyard) on one side and HPCL and Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on the other side
The office is having Main Building Complex consisting of 3 floors with centralized A/C situated in a plinth area of about 4140 Sq.m., which includes a
Seminar Hall and Canteen. In addition, it has residential accommodation for officers and staff.
Research at IMU Visakhapatnam is nurtured through academic programmes run by the departments and through sponsored research and
consultancy projects funded by national organizations and industry.
The Library of the National Ship Design and Research Organization, Visakhapatnam, was established in 1991 and renamed as Indian Maritime
University Library, Visakhapatnam Campus, on 1st April 2009. This is regarded as one of the best Maritime Libraries in India. The Library aims to
develop a comprehensive collection of documents that is useful for the Faculty, Students, Ship Designers and Research Scholars in their education and
research activities in the University or even outside. The major objective of the library is to acquire useful information sources, process, organize
and to make them available to the users.
The library has a collection of 40,000 documents consisting of books and manuals, ship drawings, articles, project reports, standards, reports,
national and international periodicals, bound volumes, CD ROMs and equipment catalogues. The library uses an integrated library management
software LIBSYS for various library functions and LS Digital for managing digital resources. In Jan 2012 RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)
system was implemented.

A computer lab was setup to cater to the computer needs of the students and providing intranet and internet facility along with MS Office,
AutoCAD and similar other software which is accessible to students 24x7.
Games & Sports
Volleyball court, shuttle court and badminton court are available to the students. Enough indoor games facilities are provided to the students in
the hostel premises.
A well equipped gym is also available.
The residential quarters of National Ship Design & Research Centre (NSDRC) employees was renovated and furnished as student accommodation
for 112 undergraduate and 12 postgraduate male students. Two separate flats were made ready exclusively for girl students.
