Advanced Maritime Studies & Research in 1994.
Marine Engineering & Research Institute, formerly known as Directorate of Marine Engineering Training (D.M.E.T.) was established by the Govt. of India in the year 1949 with its head office in Kolkata and branch office in Mumbai
to train marine engineers. D.M.E.T. was renamed Marine Engineering and Research Institute in the year 1995. Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI), Mumbai is not only a pioneer Maritime Training Institute in India but in the whole of
South East Asia. This is the only institution in India offering B.Sc. (Maritime Science) degree course, giving dual certification of Nautical & Engineering stream for employment onboard the Merchant Navy ships.
As the shipping industry was expanding and the need of having large numbers of qualified officers was felt, gates were open to graduate engineers. MERI rose to the occasion and started a one year training programme to adopt Graduate in
