On 12 June 2025, Indian Maritime University, HQ, proudly released its Coffee Table Book documenting the rich avian diversity of its Semmencherry campus. Titled “Nirala – A Photobook of All the Birds Found in IMU”, the book was unveiled by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. Malini V. Shankar (Retd.) IAS in the presence of faculty, cadets, and members of the Madras Naturalists’ Society (MNS). The book showcases over 128 bird species, stunningly photographed by MNS members & IMU Students and passionately documented by IMU cadets. A celebration of biodiversity, birdwatching, and campus conservation, “Nirala” reminds us of the harmony between nature and learning spaces. With this book, IMU reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, ecological stewardship, and inspiring future mariners to protect the environment they sail through.
