Maritime Sector Education, Awareness, and Careers at Sea STEM Wheels programme of Tamil Nadu Government for Schools

IMU Chennai Campus has always been a pioneer in fostering path breaking initiatives to strengthen education at various levels, with the ultimate objective to provide access to an inclusive and quality education for every child, across the Nation. In pursuance of the Government of Tamil Nadu “Naan Mudhalvan” Scheme, Chennai Campus organised Maritime Sector awareness on the National level entrance exams as well as provided Career guidance to the students of Tamil Nadu Model School, so that they could be apprised about the path of higher education in the Maritime domain. As part of the above endeavour, 110 Students from two Government Model Schools, at Cuddalore and Villupuram, visited Campus (Uthandi and Semmencherry premises) on 08 Jan 24 and were conducted around various training facilities, viz., Laboratories, Simulators, Workshops, Computer Labs, Library, Sports facilities, Hostels, Gymnasium and Swimming Pool. They also got a chance to interact with the Faculty, who in turn, provided orientation to these students about the Institution, various courses offered, entrance exam dates, syllabus, preparation mode, scholarships that are provided and scope of career opportunities etc. A dedicated Video shooting was also undertaken at the IMU Chennai Campus (Uthandi, Semmencherry Premises), by the TamilNadu Education department, on 29 and 30 Jan 2024, Students interacted with Staff, Faculty, from the TN Model School Students who are pursuing the Undergraduate program from the Campus as well as various training activities being conducted at the Campus, including morning PT, Parade, Swimming, Guest Lectures, Practical, etc. The video shooting will be uploaded by the TN Education department in their Portal, post editing, to increase the awareness about career opportunities in Maritime domain for the school children. In addition, a Webinar was also conducted, through online mode, on 31 Jan 2024, during which Students from multiple schools of TamilNadu Model Schools participated and interacted with the IMU Faculty and Admin Departments to clear their doubts about the admission processes, syllabus, preparation methodologies, scholarships and facilities being offered at the Campus and the scope of career opportunities etc.
