On 29 th January 2024, a guest lecture on the topic, “OPPORTUNITIES & CHALLENGES IN THE MARITIME FIELD” was delivered by Shri. Rajeev Nayyer, President, IME(I) in the auditorium of IMU Headquarters. The Director Rear Adm. Amit Bose (Retd.), and Dr. K. Sivasami, HOD-SMET were present for the guest lecture along with faculty members and Cadets. Mr. Rajeev Nayyer is a marine engineer with over 35 years of experience in the Shipping Industry, starting his journey by graduating from DMET, Kolkata and rising to rank of Chief Engineer with Great Eastern Shipping Company and is now actively engaged as an independent maritime consultant and is the president of IME (I). In the lecture the Cadets were enlightened with the knowledge about various opportunities which one can get a hold on after completing his degree. In the lecture highlighting areas of growth and demand including emerging fields like offshore wind energy, ocean technology, and autonomous shipping were discussed. Critical challenges facing the maritime industry, such as technological advancements, environmental regulations, piracy, and geopolitical issues were also explained along with the skills and qualities required to overcome these challenges. He also added about various mental and physical challenges one faces onboard ship and gave us advice on how to tackle them.
