Electric Vehicle developed by B.Tech Marine Engineering Cadets, IMU Chennai Campus

The B.Tech Marine Engineering Cadets were interested in developing an Electric Vehicle for the Chennai Campus
The plan was to develop an indigenous electric vehicle that will serve the Green Campus of Indian Maritime University in Chennai. Using an EV for commuting will aid in both the conservation of university resources and the provision of a convenient mode of transportation.
The proposal was developed in collaboration with the guiding faculty members and the Director of the Chennai Campus, and it was submitted for funding in October 2022. The proposal was approved by IMU HQ and the first phase fund was made available on 24/11/2022.
The project started in December 2022 and consisted of five stages. The vehicle design was validated in the initial step using AUTOCAD software. In stage 2, materials and components for vehicle construction were purchased.
The differentials, suspension, and battery were installed first, followed by the fabrication of the body, electrical connections, and mountings. The final step of development involved test runs, troubleshooting, and debugging. The vehicle is now ready to operate on Semmencherry Premises with a pay load of around 1000 kg. The vehicle can run for 4 hours on full charge and has a maximum speed of roughly 40 kmph.
During the fabrication, 30 B.Tech (ME) Cadets were involved, with 8 core members designing the essential specs. Their enthusiastic participation and hard work helped in the completion of the first phase of the project in around 7 months.
The approximate cost of the first phase of EV is Rs.6,00,000/-. The dedicated work of the Cadets was really outstanding starting from the acquisition of raw materials till the road-trail of the EV.
The EV was given the name MINSARA MEEN' by our PRO-VC, and on July 12, 2023, our honourable vice chancellor madam officially opened it and dedicated it to the campus. By graciously attending, the Pro-VC Registrar, CoE, and FO, along with SMET Cadets and teachers, honoured the programme.
The Vice Chancellor Madam praised the Cadets and Team for finishing the assignment and gave the team members the "Certificate of Excellence."

National Level Student Innovation Competition 2023 in the West zone

Cadet Akash Kumar(Ship No. 8702) and Cadet Aryan Sharma(Ship No. 8726), IMU Navi Mumbai Campus obtained 5 th position for their innovation project titled Prevention of Collision of Inter-Island Ferry Ship for the Safety of Common People in Zonal level under Undergraduate/Diploma/ITI category in the National Level Student Innovation Competition 2023 in the West zone conducted by Ramakrishna Mission Saradapith, Belur Math as a part of celebrating 125 th year of Ramakrishna Mission in collaboration with Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. They received a Consolation Scholarship Award of Rs. 30,000/- for the innovative project on 1 st July 2023.

16th National level Karate & Silambam open Championship 2023

The 16th National level karate, kung fu and silambam open championship 2023 was organized by Tamil Nadu Kung fu Association; Shaolin Dragon wushu kungfu International; Starlee Dynamic Shotokan Karate School and Indian Dynamic Silambam Association. The events were held at Adiyaman Engineering College Indoor Stadium, Hosur from 25.02 2023 to 26.02.2023.
Students from around 17 states participated in the Kungfu championships and students from 13 states participated in Silambam championships. Around 2000 competitors (age ranging from 5 to 29 years) took part in various weight/age/belt categories.
9 students of IMU Chennai Campus under the guidance of Dr. M.A. Mohideen Abdul Khader (ADPE) participated and bagged a total of 12 medals (8 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze).

Inter-College Football Tournament "Kickoff" Lobelia

IMU Kolkata Campus, erstwhile DMET-MERI, participated in the INTER-COLLEGE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT "KICKOFF" LOBELIA held by R.J. Kar Medical College, Belgachia on August 21-24. This was the first time the institute took part in this competition, and IMU-KC came out as the table-toppers for the event.
In the finals against Meghanand Saha Institute of Technology, Kolkata, the team performed admirably and won the cup by a score of 4-0.
Praful Kumar was named "Man of the Tournament" for his outstanding performance throughout the competition.
Other medals won by IMU Kolkata included "Most Scorer of the Tournament", which was won by the top scorers of the tournament, Sanatan and Praful Kumar, both final year cadets and "Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament", Mohammed Hammad Noorani.
Abhinav Jaiswal was named as the "Man of the match" in the final for scoring 3 goals.

9th Mental Calculation World Cup

Cadet Aditya Kumar, B.Sc(NS), IMU Navi Mumbai Campus has qualified for the 9th Mental Calculation World Cup scheduled on 15-17 July 2022 at Heinz Nixdorf Museums Forum in Paderborn, Germany.

40 best calculators from 20 countries were qualified for this world cup. Cadet Aditya Kumar qualified for this event based on the previous results in the field of mental calculation (in particular at the Canadian Mindsports Challenge 2021).

Tech4Oceans: Innovative Solutions for a Sustainable Future

The U.S. Consulate General Chennai has announced the upcoming TechCamp “Tech4Oceans: Innovative Solutions for a Sustainable Future,” May 19-21 in Kochi, Kerala, in partnership with Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) which will receive participants from across India to this first-ever Tech Camp on ocean issues.

National Maritime Day (NMD) 2022 celebration at IMU NMC

National Maritime Day (NMD) 2022 was hosted by IMU Navi Mumbai Campus on 5th April 2022. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. Malini V. Shankar, IAS(Retd.) and the Esteemed Chief Guest, Capt.Rajesh Tandon, President, V.Ships(India) graced the occasion along with other esteemed dignitaries from the industry.

Dufferin – Rajendra – Chanakya’ (DRC) museum’s virtual walk-through and ‘Human Calculator’- Aditya Kumar show were the highlights of the programme. Also, various inter-campus events were conducted by IMU NMC for the cadets of all IMU campuses.

An online Quiz Competition for DNS Cadets of IMU Chennai Campus was organized by GIRL CADETS. Theme of the event was "Women empowerment and Shipping Career".

• Cadet Anirban Bhattacharjee for his paper on "An Overview on Implementation of Drones in Maritime Industry" won the 2^nd Prize in the Tech Fest.
• Cadet Param Sharma won 1^st prize for the presentation of a case study on elimination of solid ballasting in Mahindra vessels M033 and adoption of electric propulsion on board the Mahindra vessels M017 and M022.
• Cadet Ashutosh Kumar won 1^st prize for the poster design on world Maritime day and was awarded the best entry.
• Cadets Ashutosh Kumar and Ashutosh Choudhary won 1^st and 2^nd prizes respectively in the quiz competition involving complex jigsaw puzzles and crosswords, all linked to the marine and offshore industry.
• Cadets Saksham Jaiswal and Ashutosh Choudhary won 2^nd and 3^rd prizes respectively in the quiz competition based on Maritime fields on topics like Naval Architecture, Ship Building, Offshore Technology, Geographical features etc.
